Okay…those of you who follow The Garlic Diaries might think I am starting to sound like a broken record when I say this…but I am going to say it anyway. You know how I’ve said a million times that I absolutely LOVE it when healthy food tastes unhealthy? This milkshake is literally the epitome of that phrase.

This is seriously, and I’m not exaggerating, one of the best milkshakes I have ever had in my entire life. And I have had some pretty dang good milkshakes.

How is it even possible to make a milkshake using only healthy ingredients that tastes just as good as if you added fatty, sugary ice cream and chocolate syrup? I shall tell you.

This milkshake is rich, thick, creamy, and so chocolatey.

And here is what’s in it:

Banana

Peanut butter

Coconut oil

Almond milk

Coco powder

Vanilla extract

Ice

Blend those seven ingredients together, take a drink, and wonder how in the world they formed into the most amazing chocolate milkshake ever.

I will never buy ice cream and make a regular milkshake again. Seriously. Never. Because why would I when this healthy version tastes just as good?

In my first of many attempts in perfecting this delicious milkshake, I didn’t add any peanut butter or coconut oil, and the texture was a bit too icy. More like a smoothie than a creamy, decadent, milkshake. The peanut butter helps add a creamy thickness to the final shake, and the coconut oil helps a bit with that too along with making it even more healthy. I try to sneak in coconut oil wherever I can.

Nutritionists recommend eating 1-3 tablespoons of coconut oil a day so your body can absorb its wonderful health benefits, and that 1 tablespoon recommendation is met in this milkshake.

Wait…A chocolate milkshake providing your body with nutrients? That’s right. And you won’t believe how delicious it tastes.

Now that I have discovered this milkshake, I always keep the ingredients around. I probably drink one of these a day. It kills any chocolate craving your body can throw at you. And my body throws some pretty intense chocolate cravings at me. So if it can fix my chocolate cravings, it can definitely fix yours.

If you have kids, they will absolutely love this and have no idea you are sneaking something healthy into their bellies!

Have you tried freezing bananas before blending? It gives them this amazing creamy, slightly gooey soft-serve ice cream consistency… I bet that would be amazing in this recipe! Not that this recipe doesn’t sound amazing as it is, but I have a hard time getting coconut oil over here, and sometimes you need to get creative ;) Not to mention the “whipped banana” is a great alternative to normal ice cream! :D

Hey Candy! No I haven’t ever tried using frozen bananas, but that’s a great idea. And if you freeze them, it could probably double as a substitute for the ice cubes :). I will definitely try that out next time and see how it is!

Thanks, Karen! You should definitely try coconut oil in your milkshakes, it’s such a great way to sneak it in!
