Easy French Bread Pizza

4.6 from 5 reviews

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf whole wheat French bread
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 jar marinara sauce – we used Newman’s Own Tomato and Basil. You won’t use the whole jar, just eyeball how much sauce you want
  • 16 oz shredded mozzarella cheese. You won’t use the whole bag, but the 8 oz bag isn’t quite enough
  • 1 bag of pepperonis
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small can black olives

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Slice the french bread in half and pull out a little bit of the insides so there is less bread – not too much! Just a shallow amount
  3. Spread the softened butter all across of the top of each french bread half
  4. Bake for 15 minutes
  5. Slice the tip off of a clove of garlic so it creates a flat surface and rub the clove all over both french bread halves
  6. Cut the bread into the squares (size is up to you, but we sliced each half into about 5 slices)
  7. Place the slices against each other like they were before you sliced them. (Pre-slicing just makes things easier for you later. It is easier to slice the bread when it doesn’t have any melty cheese and toppings)
  8. Spoon some sauce all over the tops of both French bread halves (eyeball how much you want)
  9. Sprinkle on the mozzarella cheese (eyeball how much you want)
  10. Place pepperonis all over the top of both halves
  11. Sprinkle red red onions and black olives on top of the pepperonis and cheese
  12. Sprinkle on a bit of salt and pepper
  13. Bake for 15 minutes
