- Yield: 5 servings 1x
- 1 loaf whole wheat French bread
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 jar marinara sauce – we used Newman’s Own Tomato and Basil. You won’t use the whole jar, just eyeball how much sauce you want
- 16 oz shredded mozzarella cheese. You won’t use the whole bag, but the 8 oz bag isn’t quite enough
- 1 bag of pepperonis
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 small can black olives
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
- Slice the french bread in half and pull out a little bit of the insides so there is less bread – not too much! Just a shallow amount
- Spread the softened butter all across of the top of each french bread half
- Bake for 15 minutes
- Slice the tip off of a clove of garlic so it creates a flat surface and rub the clove all over both french bread halves
- Cut the bread into the squares (size is up to you, but we sliced each half into about 5 slices)
- Place the slices against each other like they were before you sliced them. (Pre-slicing just makes things easier for you later. It is easier to slice the bread when it doesn’t have any melty cheese and toppings)
- Spoon some sauce all over the tops of both French bread halves (eyeball how much you want)
- Sprinkle on the mozzarella cheese (eyeball how much you want)
- Place pepperonis all over the top of both halves
- Sprinkle red red onions and black olives on top of the pepperonis and cheese
- Sprinkle on a bit of salt and pepper
- Bake for 15 minutes
